Pearl necklace buying guide and questions

Compare pearl necklaces by length and construction

Choose the strand length and design you want to wear, then compare pearl type and millimeter size. These examples give you a starting point across short strands, larger baroque pearls and an endless design.

Compare fit with the Pearl Necklace Length Guide and review wearing, cleaning and storage steps in the Pearl Care Guide. Prices, availability and options are shown on each current product page.

How to choose a pearl necklace

  • Pearl type: choose the pearl family first, then compare individual products within that collection.
  • Size and presence: larger millimeter sizes create stronger visual impact. See the Pearl Size Guide.
  • Luster, surface and matching: compare these quality factors together rather than relying on a grade label alone. See the Pearl Grading Guide.
  • Length and construction: confirm the exact necklace length, clasp metal, strand count and whether the design is a full strand, station or pendant style.

For pearl-type-specific searches, use the dedicated Akoya, Freshwater and Tahitian necklace collections above. For a complete buying framework, see the Pearl Buying Guide.

Pearl necklace questions

Is pearl size the same as necklace length?

No. Pearl size is stated in millimeters; necklace length describes the jewelry length, usually in inches. Select the actual available length on the product page and compare its fit using the Pearl Necklace Length Guide.

Does a pearl pendant listing always include a chain?

No single inclusion rule applies to every pendant listing. Some items are pendant-only, while others are pendant necklaces with a chain. Check the current description, included pieces and selected option before ordering.

Can I compare AAA grades directly across pearl types?

AKWAYA uses different seller grading scales for Akoya and for Freshwater, Tahitian and South Sea pearls. Compare the pearl type and stated quality factors alongside the grade; see the AKWAYA Pearl Grading Methodology.
